the thing about copyrights keeping books off the market through Amazon was even more interesting.

Rules is rules, but I'm not a priori opposed to the Mickey Mouse thing, what usually happens is that the book, character work goes into obscurity and at that time should be allowed to pass to the public domain.

One of the best examples was "It's a wonderful life" which was dead and buried, and someone forgot to renew the copyright on it. So it was free, and stations played it over and over and it became a classic.

It's kind of a socialism i'm in agreeance with, that story ideas eventually belong to the public, just how to set that number and with the explosion of ideas in the last hundred years, most stuff is not in public domain.
