I think it is CYA in a lot of cases, especially with weak information


that you want to print. But I think it also a change that started in the 70's with music. Before that, singers would do covers as their own all of the time. But a lot of people hated the originals being ignored. I think with the internet, papers have to watch out for that backlash even more.
