I was actually in this movie (The Longest Day)


Actually, my unit in the USMC was the beach landing scene. I was on a Med Cruise as a member of K Company, 3rd Bn, 6th Marine Regiment in June, 1961 and the USMC agreed to have our Regiment do the beach landing scenes in the movie. We practiced storming the beach from our ships off the coast of the island of Sardinia (I think it was Sardinia, I don't remember for sure) for two weeks and then they filmed the landings for two days. The Director and John Wayne then threw a big beer party for the entire Regiment on the beach.
