My contention is that the word *disease* gives the connotation that one had little or nothing to do with coming down with an illness.

Addictions, in large part, are a sickness brought on by ones actions, not arbitrarily like a disease.

These are not my definitions, but merely my elucidation.

That's the gist of it.
