"Not too expensive" is tough as London is really expensive.

I would try Air BnB if cost is a real factor. If not, I'd highly recommend the Rosewood London. It is right next to the Holborn underground stop and a very short walk from the British Museum, which is my favorite attraction. The neighborhood is very safe and very quiet, yet plenty of restaurants and shops.

I dragged hokieonceremoved to London for a long weekend to see Arsenal and the concierge at the Rosewood hooked us up with Club Level seats on the middle of the pitch. Love that hotel.
