Here's why McCloughan got fired.

Allen was jealous of McC and the credit he got for bringing stability and moderate success to the franchise. Allen began overruling him on certain decisions (most notably a Cousins extension before last season) and slowly McC lost power.

McC became tired with it and so did Allen. McC, who has had alcohol issues, hadn't stopped drinking. The Skins knew this, and hired him anyway. Multiple players have said to WaPo that Scot's drinking never hindered his ability to do his job.

McC also became a favorite of the players. Multiple Skins beat reporters have said this.

Allen continued to become jealous and uses Scot's drinking as an excuse to fire him. A team official told WaPo that it was because of his excessive drinking and showing up to work drunk.

In short, Allen and McC engaged in a power struggle and Allen won. In the process, he tarnished McC. Now, other front offices are talking to media off the record about the firing and shredding the Redskins.

Just another day at the office for us.
