Can somebody explain the hold up in releasing W2s?

I'm trying to file my taxes before someone else files for me. I understand that W2s don't have to be distributed until the end of the month, but in our case all the data exists. I can log on to our employee self service site and get fully detailed payroll info for the year. Everything is there and has been since the last payday in Dec. Seems like the W2s could be generated with a couple of keystrokes. What am I missing?
