(REVISED) I-66 to US 15 at Gainesville, south on 15 around

Warrenton then to US 17 back to 95 N of Fredericksburg and on to 85 to CLT.

This sounds ridiculously far fetched, but there is always so much traffic backed up between Fredericksburg and NoVA, and one (inevitable) wreck can stop you dead in your tracks for hours with no way out. Plus you get in some nice VA rolling countryside and avoid FL-NY jerks who think 95 is a race.
