They were the youngest team to win the World Series since the 1969 Mets. This team was built on the draft, good trades, and a selected (well paid) veterans.

Yes, the Red Sox teams were well paid (generally 2nd highest behind the Yanks), but plenty of teams (my Mets, for example) spend and don't win.
