Make the three walls you aren't using for an entrance like a crib, just some 2x2 slats sanded and painted. Then for the open side make a ramp, use a nice piece of plywood and hinge it on the bottom with locks on the top. Could even carpet it for comfort. That way it could be a little higher bed, more normal looking. Again, just a quick thought.
