Recruiting is a reason a P5 may want to play at a G5.

It can be useful tool if a HC is recruiting players outside the school's or conference's footprint. Even though TV/internet can used as a recruiting tool, I still believe seeing a team play in person is the best recruiting tool out there. A recruit can see everything that transpires on the sideline during the game that is typically not shown on TV. Plus, the G5's local media tends to provide a lot more coverage leading up to the game when a P5 school visits a G5 school than when a G5 school visits a P5 school. Since a recruit is limited to the number of official visits he/she can take, then attending an away game is a way to circumvent those limitations.

Honestly I would have no problem if VT played an away game at a G5 school from the state in the Gulf Coast region, Texas, or California.
