Ehh...it's a question of self-control versus physical addiction.

As far as I can tell, there are zero physical side effects from quitting smoking weed cold turkey.

Do you consider food "addictive"? If I want to lose 10 lbs, I can cut my portions, eat really healthy, and do it in a few weeks. A lot of people seem to have major issues doing that. IMO, it's a self-control issue versus food being physically addictive.

Science probably needs to do a better job of defining the word "addictive". Some substances will make you physically ill if you quit them. Some things (including food) appear to just make you feel good (chemical reactions in the brain), but don't necessarily have any side effects if you stop doing them. IMO, that's the distinction between the two. But I know that plenty of people classify all sorts of things as addictive that have no negative side effects if you quit them.
