My greatest support came from my afar, so that can definitely work. My wife tried. She went to almost every treatment with me. However she just never grasped that I didn't need support during the 5 hours I was sitting in the chair. I needed it at 2:00 AM that night when I was lying in bed shivering, with a sweat jacket on and 2 blankets wrapped around me. I needed support the next day when I was in bed too fatigued to move and too nauseous to eat or drink. She never grasped that when she cooked me a piece of chicken, it had to be baked and bland--not fried or seasoned with cajun or garlic. Fortunately my Mom did get this and seemed to have a sense about calling to check on me when I was feeling my worst.
