I'm guessing part of it is to reduce costs, as well.


By that, I'm thinking in terms of travel costs for the officials. If you're a CAA official from Richmond, then now you can officiate games at VCU, UR, UVA, VT, Georgtown, etc all within easy driving distance. Rather than the majority of your games being a bit more down the road.

I'm also hoping this results in some consistency, like 86 mentions above. But hopefully it will be more throughout the regular season, too.
