I've had the opportunity to live in/visit many countries/states.

Europe, Africa, Colombia, Georgia, Michigan, Colorado, NC, VA,etc.

Accents not like my midwest garbage accent are not "foreign" to me, nor do I have xenophobic tendencies.

There do seem to be, within a number of areas of US life, especially medicine, an inordinate number of rapid-tongued, soft-spoken (I have perfect hearing) Asian and Hispanic people using very bad hospital phone systems. It requires getting beyond the first call to establish trust and communication, and when an effort is made, it's usually reciprocated.
