From Will's article, it sounded like someone basically told him to sign because Nike has been "so good to us." From the information in the article, I can't really see anyone that benefited much beyond the extra $150k that Beamer got each year. Everyone wants to blame Weaver for this deal, but we know he wasn't really involved because of his illness. Sounds to me like Beamer may have had some influence on this. Who else would Whit have been afraid to stand up to, assuming we believe he knew it wasn't a good deal when he signed it?
