Probably same thing I was thinking...seriously

cutting some kind of back room deal with Notre Dame kind of like some of the bowl deals conferences have done (like how ND can currently get access to the Orange Bowl)

something like if ND is in the top 10 of the playoff committee rankings and one or both of the ACC division winners is outside the top 20, then ND can replace the lowest of the two in the ACCCG. in the event ND wins and gets in the playoff, they share the proceeds as if they were a conference member...something like that
