Players need to where the first down, too. They can't see the laser that shows up on TV. How do you gps a ball? Even if a device is that precise, can it deferentiate between the center, side or nose ot the ball. I don't think that's possible unless they slightly changed the rules & said the dead center of the ball has to break the line as opposed to any part of the ball.
