You make some good points about using technology. Using high tech stuff on the sideline could be a problem. They make lasers for the construction industry but I wouldn't want them on the sideline with players going full speed. The chains are easy to drop when players get near them and become pretty harmless to the players. Not sure how a laser on a tripod could be moved out of the way when players get near the sideline. But maybe you have something else in mind.
