Usually you can tell from their title

If their title is Professor then that means the are a full professor with tenure. Associate Professors also usually have tenure but some are not tenured or tenure track. Assistant Professors are not tenured but usually on the tenure track.

I didn't know the hierarchy until I married an Assistant Professor. She got tenure last year and is now an Associate Professor.
