Amos chose a partial scholarship from Tech over a slightly more lucrative offer from Old Dominion.

“I just felt like Tech would be a better way to go,” Amos said Friday. “It’s all about fit, and for me, Tech is a better fit.”

Amos said Tech’s program — which placed fourth last month at the NCAA championships — its rural campus and proximity to Roanoke weighed heavily in the Hokies’ favor.

“All of that,” he said. “I’ve been a big Tech fan since I was little, anyway. The location, the distance, everything was a factor in it.”
