His songs were part of some great times


in college and my mid-twenties. Will never forget the country station in Charlotte playing Fightin' Side of Me and Elvis' Dixie for weeks after 9/11.

Took my three year old daughter to see him seven years ago. He sounded great then! Unfortunately, he was very hard to hear when we went to see him in Winchester a couple years ago. Glad the older two kids will be able to say they saw him play.

God bless his family. The picture of his son holding his hand and Merle's comments about being ready to go after lung cancer were striking.
