Anyone have experience with the Cape May ferry? As in

do you know if it consistently runs on time, can you buy a ticket the same day you intend to use it, etc.?

We're going from CT to Chincoteague island in a week, and there's 2 viable routs. One is all land, around Philly, etc. and is the shortest time wise.

The other is through pretty much ALL of NJ on the Garden State Pkwy, to Cape May and across. It's the shortest distance, and the family would probably enjoy the ferry ride....but not if it's going to be an added pain.

So, anyone with input? And/or....how busy will the Garden State Pkwy be heading south on a Thursday morning?
