Was he:

"Genuinely intending to pursue those jobs" as you say below? That "he wanted those jobs"?

OR

Was he just looking into/exploring potential opportunities like a responsible and reasonable adult?

There is absolutely no indication -- zero, none, nada -- that he went into this exercise craving to leave, already knew that he wanted those jobs, or specifically seeking out those jobs in order to leave. I think most people will agree that he looked to see what the exact opportunity was -- and how it compared to his current situation -- but there is absolutely no indication that he was leaving if asked/offered.
