A few years ago, I pulled together all my WWII movies and series...

And spliced them all together in a scene-by-scene chronological order. I didn't include the outright fiction, but did include documentaries and dramatizations. Alltogether about 120 hours of video (and growing). The epic scale of the conflict started to become evident. You can pick any theater, any topic, dig a little, and find an amazing treasure trove of fascinating.

One of the first things to really surprise me was that the retreat from Dunkirk happened simultaneously with a UK raid on Norway.

The initial battles of Peleliu happened simultaneously with Market Garden... almost exactly as the pitched battles in Peleliu happened at night, while the Market Garden ones happened during the day.

I learned so much stuff like that doing the research to actually splice things together... and I still only scratched the surface.
