I'm well aware - but listen to your own post

if-this
barring-that

the reality is that the cumulative probabilities of all these odd-ball things we don't EXPECT to happen but COULD happen usually DO happen in college sports when 1 bad thing for a coach can often outweigh 10 consecutive good things. It is a very thin line they are ALL walking.

I'm just saying don't pretend like any of those jobs are safe. And even the assertions you made extend only to THREE years of "security" ... which again, back to my original post - it's a question for Buzz, if he wants to make another step now, or BET on this class riding him to a league championship, an elite 8, something, in the next 2-3 years, and parlay THAT into a mega-opening. Because that is the real goal here.

I'm saying this is Buzz's calculus.

The "best case scenario" with Buzz was always, I believe, "he does SO well that somebody hires him away to a lifer/dreamjob program" ... I mean the scenario where we build a statue of him out front, COULD have developed over time, but that was never really in the picture going in.

So the question is does he want to stay here and try to parlay THIS team into that big job, or maybe kind of hedge his bets and go back home NOW with a lateral move while still maintaining a chance at jumping to one of the "cherry" jobs in the region within the next 2-4 years.

Because it's never a guarantee that THIS vt team will develop into the world-beaters that they COULD and almost SHOULD become at this point. But opportunity is a fleeting thing in college athletics - Buzz has decisions to make. He's in a good spot, really, he can't go wrong. He's earned this in many respects. I think he cares about the kids on the VT team but I think he also knows in the big picture its one class and there will be many, many more - whether he changes jobs now, later, or never.

Fingers crossed, I'd much prefer the scenario where he sees this out for another 2 years maybe here at VT, 3 max, and then jumps.
