So some discussion though i dont feel qualified to answer complete strategy

Here's a vid of Pat Popolizio getting worked by Wes Hand from Iowa. Pop was a taller lankier lighter heavyweight from OSU:

In terms of recruiting they definitely have a body type picked out, as only boykin(197) is below 6' tall. If i were to attribute some of their success my 4 big bullet points would be:

1. Bringing Gwiaz from Binghamton. Pop got the best HWT in a decade to stick with him, a huge selling point to future recruits. And he delivered on his promises to Gwiaz, especially with an ACC title this year.

2. A ridiculously deep RTC/coaching staff. We went over this 2 weeks ago but they have 3 or 4 wrestlers qualified to the Olympic team trials. That depth on par with Iowa or PSU or Michigan. It breeds good creative wrestling like that new crackdown bear hug from Rohskopf.

3. Volume of recruits. NCSU has recruited a ton of kids, and through attrition has weeded out the stars. They regularly have big recruiting classes, i think they do a great job of selling the raleigh location to midwesterners tired of freezing their behinds off.

4. Dumb luck. If you had told anyone Tommy Gannt would mature into what he is today 5 years ago they would have fallen over laughing. Theyve had a lot of good fortune, especially with Kevin Jack.
