Gotta love a DMV that takes appointments and runs on time
I had to renew my drivers license yesterday. Total time in the building (including going up stairs to DMV and coming back down)....9 minutes.
And by the way, there's a Homeland Security rule that goes into effect (I think) in 2017. Flying, even domestically, will require either a passport OR a verified driver's license. I think every state is offering verified licenses at the same price as a normal renewal...but in order to get a verified one, you have to bring a passport, or your birth certificate, as well as some other ID with you to get the verified version.
Still, that will be easier than carrying your passport with you on every domestic trip.
