Another brief UVA breakdown

Time to go beat the stuffing out of the Hoos! UVA is a super young team trying to replace the huge classes of seniors that have left over the last 2 years. VT should have an advantage in all but 2 of the weight classes. Lets break it down.

125: Dance vs. Hermann - Not much drama left in this contest anymore, Dance has won by decision 4 times. He's "daddied" Hermann tossing him around before from a double underhooks position, as well as using that slick shrug. Joey needs to push himself for the major here, this is the type of opponent he needs to score bonus points on in march if the hokies want to push for a trophy. I think dance breaks through here with a TF, helped by some good NF points, Tech 5-0.

133: Gustafson vs. DiCamillo - DiCamillo is the one stud of the UVA lineup. I secretly really like DiCamillo and think he could be a dark horse national champ. He always maintains the right position and really only ever loses to a truly better wrestler, very consistent. With that said, Dennis continues to improve, and showed some real mettle at the end of the third last match. I thin dennis drops a decision here, but its gonna be a barn burner. Tech 5-3

141: Chishko vs. Watson - At this point, with sully's momentum, i aint betting against him. Watson's kind of tough to read. He cant beat top competition, and since half his matches are top 20 losses, hard to read. I still think chishko by major here, Tech 9-3

149: Mastriani vs. Miller - Another chance for Sal to exorcise some demons. his loss to miller was a result of a very stupid decision/position on his worst day last year. Again, if sal's on, he wins a decision here and pushes miller around. I think sals back on the right track. Sal by decision, VT 12-3

157: Brascetta vs. - Atkinson - This was Nick's welcome back match at moss last year, and also his ACC championship. Brascetta will win, just a matter of decision or MD. Look for brascetta to use that slick little fireman's carry he loves (used it to reverse cottrell last match) He hit it at will at the ACCs last year. Brascetta by major, Tech 16-3

165: Mcfadden vs. Peppleman OR Baldwin - So Peppleman was a super recruit coming out of HS two years ago and he's fallen kind of flat. At the same time Baldwin was a comparable recruit to McFadden (and came from the Norstrem's HS in florida), though he was the 170 lb class not 160. Sounds from the official press releases that Baldwin has been making the weight descent and is eligible this weekend. I expect we will see Baldwin here. This will be very close match, will come down to a TD in the 3rd. In those situations, I'm betting Mcfadden. VT 19-3

174: Epperly vs. Askey OR Baldwin - Assuming Baldwin goes at 165, Askey comes out here, where he's descended from 184. No reason to think his first match down a class will be an upset of a top 5 guy. Think epp by major here, VT 23-3

184: Zavatsky vs. Schany - Zavatsky should roll here. Not much to say about Schany, he's a backup 184. Expect zack to push for a major. I actually think he works that tilt for a TF here. VT 28-3

197: Haught vs. Nye - So we see this rivalvy again for what feels like the 20th time. Historically Nya has had Haughts number by a point, until Vegas. There Haught got an early turn then backpedalled his way to an ugly win. Haught needs to be confident and aggressive here. I'm a jared haght fan and i think he has the skills to win this match. Nye is the type of opponent he will have to beat to earn all american status. Ill say Haught by decision, 31-3, though this could and probably should be flipped.

285: Walz vs. Gillen - Gillen is a class below walz. Ill admit, hes made some big progress, but this is still an opponent i think Ty could pin. I think he does pin Gillen, but if he cant find that bar and half, it ends a major. VT 37-3

This prediction could get screwed up if UVA's guys arent ready with their weight cut. They've got 2 guys cutting a lot of weight to go from 184 and 174 to 174 and 165. If either isnt ready, lineup will change. Results for the most part should not.

VT should roll, Go Hokies!
