Agree. SEC doesn't hurt Vanderbilt, Florida. UGA, Texas A&m,....
academically. I've even noticed the SEC schools moving up in the various college academic rankings. 13 of the SEC's 14 members are state flagship universiites, land-grant universiites, or both. Vanderbilt is a top 15-20 university.
As for Tech, it attracted the same out-of-state students regionally (MD, NJ, PA, NY) when Tech was a football independent and playing in the Metro Conference (which happen to have almost the same geographic footprint as the SEC).
I'd rather be in the Big 10, but I wouldn't be upset if Tech ended up in the SEC. I'm sure they would treat us well as new members.
