The networks are the corporate heads


When I speak, ESPN is disney. Folks are misreading Disney,. They want ESPN to be prudent and reduce expenses and maximize revenues. They just don't want them to bid on anything, but make it smart. Obviously, they are making money with the SEC; they are making a killing with the ACC (with a lower outlay for rights)… especially for basketball.

DISNEY expects ABC/ESPN to bid aggressively, but don't bid on things that don't make sense (i.e. AAC or SUNBELT.)

Frankly, the idea for them, is no conferences, but a agreement for about 15 programs, you can name them ND, Michigan Ohio State, Ala, LSU, GA, FLA FSU, Miami, Texas, Oklahoma, USC, UCLA Stanford Oregon Washington. These are the national brands all rest of us are collateral properties.

Key is conferences have to deal with them, NOT as Strategic partners, but a big game to maximimze revenue at all cost
