Why do we think these kids will be surprised to learn that? I'm not one to pull the racism card very quickly, but there's really no other explanation. It's likely that these kids have had a job before. Their parents have likely had a job. They know how it works to have a job and pay taxes. It will not be a surprise, and they will be happy to take the taxed income just like the rest of us. Out of curiosity, I looked him up and his brother is a civil engineer. I'm sure he pays federal income tax. Maybe Wong can ask him.
