9 of the last 10 AL Cy Young award winners gave up at least 5 ER in one or


more games (not counting COVID 2020 since there were so few games). The exception was Verlander in 2019 who gave up 4 ER plenty of times. But win Verlander won it in 2011 he gave up 5 ER in one game and 6 ER in another.

Even the most elite HOF-level pitchers do not always have their best stuff every single outing. Everyone who follows baseball or softball should know that.
