The book Van Halen Rising is excellent


The book really covers their childhood, teen years and early days of fame. Dave tried for a very long time to get in a band with Alex and Ed. There is one chapter where Dave comes over to their house(they are kids) and Alex tests him by playing the piano and asking Dave to copy the melody with his voice, and he can’t do it. Alex rejects him on the spot. Dave is tenacious and it takes him well over a year to get in a band with the guys. I think you are right about him owning a PA as a big factor eventually.

Great book …Alex and Ed never had a plan B btw. Laser focused on one goal their whole lives.
