I'm most impressed by the angle of attack.
Like you, I appreciate hockey, even though I never got to watch it much as a kid growing up in Richmond. I remember getting really excited about the winter Olympics every four years because it meant hockey would be on network TV (we didn't have cable until I was in middle school). We have the unique opportunity to have an ice rink at our neighborhood rec center (i.e. - where we go to the pool), and my daughter does figure skating there every winter. I took some skating lessons there myself as a kid, so when my daughter started to learn to skate, I bought a pair of hockey skates and dusted off my skills so I could help her practice. I found that for a middle-aged dude that's past his athletic prime, I'm pretty darn fast in a straight line/doing laps around the rink. But stopping abruptly or quickly changing direction may as well be a request for me to windmill dunk a basketball...it just ain't going to happen.
However, more than anything else, I appreciate the incredible handling skills of pro hockey players and how they can seemingly put the puck in the net from the most impossible of angles. This goal is nuts...it seems like the window of opportunity between the goal posts was barely wider than the puck itself. That was quite impressive.
