especially young alumni.

A bunch of alumni chapters, student organizations, and academic departments don't try very hard to share their data with VT fundraising because VT fundraising won't give those groups access to the VT alumni database. Because of the one-way street, a lot of groups don't go out of their way to give VT their alumni info.

Similarly, VT Athletics for years was perceived as the enemy by VT academics, who wouldn't cooperate with them as a result. The reason was that VT Athletics would try to wall off its donors from the academic side. That issue has gotten better in recent years under the new leadership, and there are fewer turf fights now between the athletic and academic sides.

Charlie Phlegar has made a lot of progress with these issues, but there is still a lot of work to be done.
