… hospice can be longer.

The majority of the time, "hospice" refers to home hospice, where the health care organization has the hospice nurse visit the family, explain the regimen of care, and explain the use of the meds. Insurances like this mode of treatment.

If things get out of hand and the end-of-life process is more than the family can properly handle, they usually call the hospice organization and inpatient care can be considered.
