Tech had a player (won't mention his name) that had just concluded his playing career here and was invited to the PIT. I was headed down to that area myself the same weekend to cover the Boo Williams tournament. This player was in need of a ride down due to not having transportation. I had asked for a clarification on what the rules were concerning providing transportation to a VT athlete, that had exhausted their eligibility. I even asked two specific coaching friends at OTHER Universities to check with their compliance people on what the ruling would be in this instance so that I would have several opinions. Unfortunately it wasn't as crystal clear as I had hoped so I decided to forge ahead anyway. Just the fact that providing transportation to an athlete to HELP this individual get exposure for possible future professional opportunities somewhere was at that time construed as a no-no was just silly, stupid and very short-sighted. I could not have lived with myself had I driven down alone, left the Tech player behind and possibly kept him from pursuing an opportunity to chase his dream. It wasn't really even a decision to be made for myself. So I went outlaw, kept my fingers crossed and my mouth shut.

The event is pretty cool, seeing so many guys in such an intimate setting, all chasing their dreams. Talent in abundance, players fighting and clawing to make an impression and stand out. If you have a chance, try and add to your bucket list
