Pete wanted to talk to the home plate ump first. From there the more direct


route might’ve been to walk across the field. I think he told the home plate ump that the guy at 3rd is a complete buffoon and that he wants to formally protest the game.

I also think Pete wanted to hold the game up for a few minutes just because he could. Taking a small grain of satisfaction out of it.
