OK, here's the rule as revised this year by USA softball:


Rule change for USA Softball: Rule 6A, Section 3K: (Women's and JO Girls) Pushing off and dragging the pivot foot in contact with the ground or having both feet in the air is allowed.
Under this rule Lemley is fine, no debate. The problem is the NCAA has yet to adopt it. Remember, pitching coach Gillis was an accomplished men's fastpitch pitcher. Also know that leaping has always been legal in men's fastpitch. From a biomechanics perspective it makes perfect sense to allow the leap (but not the replant). The required drag for women is simply not natural as it limits the full use of lower body to generate velocity.
