Thanks for coming here.
I'm no softball expert or even knowledgable poster, but what I get from your post is trying to highlight problems that you see in our coach's approach. First, over-scheduling for sport success and hurting academic success. Second, a coach who is more loyal to self than loyal to school.
For the first one, I hear you, it can be a real problem, but it's also something that's not a surprise for the athletes coming in. They can see it just like you and I can. Our recruits have options and it's my sense that they know what they are signing on for here. You can prefer UVA program approach, but you stray too far to infer some system at VT behind "0 for natty" push without regards for ethics.
As for the Coach concern, you see and know more than I do, so again, i hear you. You may certainly be right. And VT has to make choices including risks on coaches that will be this way in order to elevate our programs (see Buzz Williams for a great example). As a VT fan, I'm used to the ups and downs of our Olympic sports and am excited by special years like this one with pitching talent that gives us a chance at something special. As a rival fan, it's a poor time to come here (yes you posted on Sabre first, but then you came here to chat) and say "yeah, but look your coach is a @#$%". Don't expect a great response and sorry for my Hokie friends that just fire back at you.
over-schedule, sure yeah, maybe, but it's producing results and is not a surprise to recruits. Coach selfish, yep, could be, and I'm fine with it. We don't have UVA pedigree, privilege, or pretention so enjoy your great facilities and athlete experience and we will enjoy ours as well.
Go Hokies!
