Hello Friends: Got to watch him hit around a bit yesterday (Long report)

First to answer the question below "Why does anyone care?": Tiger ABSOLUTELY moves the needle. He didn't show up yesterday until about 1:00pm, but when he did, the entire course was buzzing. We were around 15/16 at the time and checked the board and thought, we should make our way to the Front 9. As we were crossing other holes, you could see 2 from a distance and it looked like the tournament was being played with the amount of people lined up. Watched his drive on 3. Worth the price of admission. The dude can still wow you with what he does. Much more than anyone else I saw yesterday (my lone regret, not seeing DJ hit a drive up close. We did see the result of shank he had were it hit someone. He checked on them kindly.)

With that said, my first trip there was awesome. It's like going to a theme park. The way they funnel you in and welcome you in, down to the restrooms and gift shop. The anti-theme park part is the cost of concessions. It's amazingly cheap and the food is delicious. Beer is good to, all priced at $5 and you get to keep the cup!

I'm thoroughly convince the grass is fake (I know it's not). I simply can't wrap my head around how they make it look so good. I was surprised to see one of the greens on the practice range was actually rather brown, so that cheered me up.

The other thing that cheered me up is watching the best in the world miss like 5 or 6 putts in a row on the greens and simply stand there and hit it a billion times trying to make it. Makes me feel like I'm not actually that bad, though I know I've never played a green half that slick.

Got to see just about everyone play through I wanted to at some point, but the coolest thing we saw was on 16. We half followed Oostheizen, Scwartzel, Higgo and Bezuidenhout around (they were at a lot of holes we went to at the same time) and they came up to 16 while we were there. They all shot, then everyone was chanting "skip it, skip it!" to which they obliged. But they all did it at the same time. It was pretty cool. 3 of the 4 made it, the last hit right at the end of the pond and couldn't get up the bank in time and dropped in.

As to Tiger at the end of the day, it's amazing what people will say in a large setting. We saw him again at the 7th tee, up close and personal. (Side note: Staff there gave my friend's dad, who was wearing a VT hat, a handshake and said ACC Champs!) Tiger had a sandwich in his hand and people were yelling "Yeah Tiger, eat that sandwich!" "Nice Hoagie!" "What's on the sandwich?". Seriously people? Anyway, Tiger then absolutely laced one down the middle of the fairway while paying no one but Freddie Couples any attention. He also had a noticeable limp while walking around. Didn't seem to affect his swing though. The rain will make it very interesting.

All in all, if you have the chance: Go. We got a LOT of "Go Hokies!" while walking around. Easily the most well-represented college there in terms of hats/shirts on fans, aside from the UVA women's golf team in full regalia. It is a much more open course than I imagined from TV, but damn if you don't get a workout. We walked 8 miles and I was exhausted by the end of the day.
