Well we can look at that a couple of ways
the team went about 20-25 games in the season severely underperforming its talent level.
yes he made some adjustments - shortened the bench, 2 in/3 out. But still , it wasnt like he was an outsider to the program .
So they turned in on in the end- not because HD is Coach K worthy but because the elite talent was there, and the kids decided to be motivated.
And the same thing can be said about Roy's team- they often underperformed.
Also when KU went up 3 with 27 or so seconds left, not using of his 2 TOs was really stupid. If not for the crazy KU turnover that gave them a last chance , folks would be zeroing in on that today.
