My takeaway from the weekend was the quality of the at-bats and grinding
NC is a top 20 team and very experienced. They have a solid pitching staff, and our hitters ran the starters early by having great at-bats, not swinging at stuff outside the zone, looking for the pitch that they could handle and taking advantage of what they were given. The game breaking inning on Saturday (3 runs with 1 hit) was because of walks, but the pitcher was on the edges and a lot of the pitches our hitters took were close and most batters swing at them.
Our pitchers, especially the pen give up too many base runners for sure, but for the most part they make the big plays and limit the damage. Nail biting sometimes for sure, but that is what happens in college baseball, these guys are not pro's and even pro's have trouble finding the zone sometimes.
We have won 3 of 4 from Top 20 teams in the last 10 days. This weekend we get a middle of the pack (see what I did there) ACC team come to town. Win the series and move on to the next one. Grind em out one at bat at a time.
