If you have crabgrass, look in to Tenacity(tm)

Tenacity is the only thing I've ever found that does a good job on crabgrass. A little bottle (about $60) will last you ~2 years.

My view has always been that fertilizer in April is just "feeding the top" of your grass; that you'll just be cutting it more. I guess the Scotts wouldn't hurt per se, but to specifically target weeds, I'd get a weed killer.

A VT extension agent once told me to use the acronym "SOD" for lawn feeding. September, October, December.

Lime doesn't' hurt either. Grass tends to like a more base soil, while weeds tend to LOVE acid.

In RVA, one can almost never over-lime.
