The issue is much more complicated...
The ACC didn't play well the 1st half of the season, which is when all the out of conference games occur. It's a critical time to win since it's the only opportunity to evaluate the quality of your conference.
If you objectively look back at the ACC out of conference play, you'll see a very poor performance with some REALLY bad losses. Only Duke did well out of conference. Every other team had some head-scratching losses or didn't beat anyone of significance.
Based on the data available, I think the committee got it right. The only exception is VT's seed and our possible exclusion had we lost to Duke, as objectively we had unprecedentedly high computer rankings and were clearly a team playing at a high level for the past month+.
The simple solution to avoid complaints is for the ACC to play better earlier.
For example, VT's loss to BC looks bad when BC loses to Albany, Rhode Island, and Utah. VT's two wins over Pitt don't mean as much if Pitt loses to Citadel, Vanderbilt, UMBC, Minnesota and Monmouth. The list goes on as so may ACC teams whiffed early on.
