Ryegrass or red rescue have a shot in spring and fall

unless you are closer to the coast or south of charlotte then you grow bermuda hybrids and as overseed rye for late winter and spring bermuda pops in summer. north of charlotte you have classic bluegrass rye decision. generally red fescue handles shade better in central and western virginia.
