Locked Up Abroad


Probably no way to know for certain if she was set up or was stupid, but she was detained before the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, so I'm inclined to think she was just dumb. Thing is a lot of Americans go abroad and do stupid things with respect to drugs and do time. Lonely Planet used to publish travel books with "things to do while you are in XXXX," and quite of few of those books encouraged American travelers to visit jails in exotic places and bring American prisoners necessities as there are a lot of people locked up abroad for simple drug offenses in places where you don't have a lot of rights and are not exactly taken care of humanely while in custody. Which is why you don't break drug laws in repressive countries in the first place.
