If it sounds like a bunch of crap, and the metrics don't really work, and it seems like the logic doesn't fit, it's because it does not fit.

If the story of how teams are selected change by the year, it's because it does change by the year.
It's an old mans frat party picking the teams they want, regardless, and letting the talking heads make sense of it for us.
If it looks like a turd, smells like a turd, and tastes like a turd, you probably have a turd on your hands.
