So my initial reactions...

First from a business perspective.

The Braves increased revenue by $100 million from FY 2019 to FY 2021, and their season ticket sales were up this year. They signed talented young players like Albies and Acuna to cheap, long-term deals. So they should have been able to get a deal done.

It's not like they won't have to pay Olson. He's at $12 million this year, and probably more next year in his final year of arbitration. And then he's a free agent.

Giving up their #2, #3, #9 and #14 prospects (one of which is catcher who can hit), on top of having to pay Olson...it seems like not resigning Freddie may cost them more money in the long-run. Maybe I'm wrong, but it doesn't make much sense to me. I guess Liberty Media is just keeping the new-found profits rather than investing it back into the team?

And from an emotional standpoint...screw them. It's not like Freddie was some mercenary free agent. He's a home-grown talent who wanted to stay. Considering the increase in revenue, and the cheap deals for Acuna and Albies, you need to find a way to get that done. I'm gonna need a mental break from baseball for awhile after this news.
